Q&A with Mr. Janak Mistry, Idiom

Are you following any particular design philosophy for Vrindavan TechVillage?

Sanjhi is an art form originated and evolved out of the cult of Krishna. It is practiced in Uttar Pradesh especially around Mathura and Vrindavan. The paper cut craft form is characterized by the intricate stencil forms, also often used for rangholi floor decorations.

For Vrindavan Tech Village we thought it apt and decided to evolve the signage design from Sanjhi in order to synergize the traditional craft form with a modern tech park.

You must have worked on a number of such projects- is there anything in particular that you would consider different?

The scale and scope of this project is large and challenging.  It has also provided us an opportunity of collaborating with landscape, Lighting, Traffic and architectural consultants in order to realize the project and give it a holistic and well integrated solution.

Are you taking any initiatives to emphasize the fact that this a green building?

In addition to the Sanjhi concept, we had also proposed the ‘green route’ for all the signage design. The green route is designed to draw from Bangalore, the Garden city and all its, diverse and indigenous plant species. Since both, the Sanjhi and the green route concepts were liked we have integrated both the concepts in the signage design language we have developed for VTV.

Also, in order to minimize power consumption we have designed many of our signage structures such that they don’t require internal illumination. Signage illumination in such cases is achieved by integrating them with the street lighting structures. Similarly all interior signage would also be illuminated by ambient interior lighting.
